Biography

Peter Fitzgerald is an accomplished director/producer known for crafting film and television documentaries centered around classic cinema as well as the LGBTQ+ experience.

In 2018, his documentary "Beyond Mr. Smith," which explores the life of gay Beyond Baroque founder George Drury Smith, earned Best Documentary Short Subject - World Cinema award at the Amsterdam International Film Festival. His 2021 film, "Butch Please," in which he explores gay masculinity at the 2019 International Mr. Leather weekend, won Fitzgerald the Best Documentary Short award at the Cinekink Film Festival in 2022. 2024 promises to be a banner year with his newest project, The Sisters Film, which concerns The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and their recent controversy with the LA Dodgers.

Fitzgerald's journey in the entertainment industry began with acting in Broadway's A Chorus Line and later leveraged his vast film knowledge to executive produce Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's That's Entertainment! III. He went on to direct pioneering archival film documentaries, Midnight Cowboy Revisited and West Side Stories for MGM/UA. Transitioning to Turner Classic Movies, Fitzgerald created notable specials, Joan Crawford: The Ultimate Movie Star, Destination Hitchcock: The Making-of North By Northwest, and The Age of Believing - The Disney Live Action Classics. At Warner Bros. He produced numerous cinema-related DVD special features, including What a Glorious Feeling: The Making-of Singin' in the Rain, On The Avenue - Easter Parade, A Life In Words & Music and the Cole Porter in Hollywood series.

He was taught documentary studies at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center and lives in West Hollywood, CA.
