Biography

Beautiful Anne Firth had a short and tragic life. She started acting in the late 30's. After appearing on the London stage, she began to break into movies in the early 40's, notably in Leslie Howard's "The First of the Few" (1942), and had further roles through the period in less notable films. She suffered partial paralysis in 1945, which left her unable to walk and halted her career for a time, but she gradually learned to walk again and appeared in "Scott of the Antarctic" (1948) with Sir John Mills. It was her last major role. In 1953 she was badly disfigured in an auto accident, which effectively ended her film career, although she had two small guest appearances on "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (TV series) in the late 50's opposite Richard Greene. She was married to a naval officer in 1955, but they separated after a short time.. Sadly, in 1961, she took her own life by overdose after losing her job as a barmaid. She was only 42.
