Roman Filippov in Magicians (1982)
Roman Filippov is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, teacher. People's Artist of the Russian SFSR. Honored Artist of the Belarusian SSR. In his early years, Roman was fond of chess (he was a candidate for master of sports in chess), read a lot, and loved Russian literature. He had a naturally rare, low and chesty voice - a profundo bass. He became involved with the theater thanks to the Malyy Theater actress Vera Pashennaya. She and the theater troupe came to Gorkiy, and the administration of the school where Roman studied asked to audition the students to determine their stage talent. Tenth-grader Filippov, who in real life spoke in a thick operatic bass, also came to the screening. Pashennaya just looked at him and immediately exclaimed that Roman needed to go to the theater. In 1953, Roman graduated from high school, and then became a student at the Shchepkin Theater School, where Vera Pashennaya turned out to be his teacher. In 1957 he graduated from college and joined the Malyy Theater troupe. In 1960-1961 - actor at the Moscow Drama Theater named after Aleksandr Pushkin. In 1961-1962 he worked at the Mosconcert. At the same time, in 1962, the actor worked part-time in the All-Russian Touring and Concert Association. In 1962-1969 - actor of the National Academic Theater named after Janka Kupala in Minsk. In addition to Belarusian, the actor was fluent in Polish and German, played in English in the play 'Peter the Great', in Ukrainian in 'Warsaw Melody' at the Kiev Academic Theater. From 1969 until his death he was an actor at the Malyy Theater in Moscow.

Since 1954, Filippov acted in films, making his debut in an episode of the film Chempion mira (1955). His first notable work was his role in the film Zelyonyy furgon (1960), where the actor played the role of Fed'ka the Bull. Possessing a textured appearance, figure and voice, the actor played mostly small character roles - all kinds of big guys, endowing his characters with subtle humor and irony. Was remembered for his role as lumberjack Vasya Zaytsev in the comedy The Girls (1962). The role of Evgeniy Ladyzhinskiy in the comedy The Diamond Arm (1969) became striking. In the legendary comedy Gentlemen of Fortune (1971) Filippov played the role of a colorful prisoner, Nikola Piterskiy.
