Ignacio Fernández de Castro

Ignacio Fernández de Castro Sánchez de Cueto (Comillas 1919 - Sant Joan de Mallorca, September 17, 2011) was a Spanish sociologist and lawyer, especially known for his works about the sociology of education and its activity against Franco's regime.
Law degree from the University of Oviedo, during his early years served as a labor lawyer. In the late 1950s he founded, along with Julio Cerón Ayuso and Jesús Ibáñez the People's Liberation Front (known as FELIPE). The persecution of the Franco regime led him to take refuge in the French Embassy in Spain in 1962. From there went into exile in Paris, where he remained until 1970 when he could return to Spain. Founded Study Team, a working group of Spanish intellectuals on the social reality of the time, an institution that was later linked to the University Complutense of Madrid. It was then that he concentrated his efforts and work in the field of sociology of education. During his exile he actively participated in 'Iberian Turn review' ('Ruedo Ibérico'), where he published an important part of his works.
In 1978, he was chosen by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro to star, with a young Gracia Querejeta, his first feature, 'The words of Max', Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
