Biography

Michael Feingold was born on May 5, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was a writer and actor, known for Great Performances (1971), America's Musical Theater (1985) and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (2010). He died on November 21, 2022 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

Was nominated for two Tony Awards in 1977 for "Happy End:" as Best Book (Musical), for his adaptation of Elisabeth Hauptmann's libretto, and as Best Score, for his adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's lyrics.

Twice received the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism and has twice been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in criticism.

Began contributing to The Village Voice in 1971, and was its chief theatre critic from 1983-2013.
