Biography

Joseph Farnham was born on December 2, 1884 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He was a writer and editor, known for Thunder (1929), Where East Is East (1929) and The Trail of '98 (1928). He was married to Rose Alma LeCourt and Emily Ardis. He died on June 2, 1931 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Farnham was the first Oscar-winner to die.

Farnham's Oscar win for Title Writing (May 16, 1929) made him the only winner of such an Oscar because the category was abolished after the first Academy Awards. Farnham also has the curious distinction of being the very first Oscar winner to die when he passed away two years after his victory.
