Mario Andretti has said that Fangio was one of his racing idols.

Juan Manuel Fangio and Luigi Musso were the first drivers to win a Formula 1 World Championship race using a V8 engine, achieving this at the 1956 Argentine Grand Prix. The victory was shared between the two drivers. After the own car of Fangio suffered a fuel pump failure on lap 22, he took over the car of Musso on lap 30 and drove it to victory.

Juan Manuel Fangio won his fourth Formula 1 Driver Championship in 1956 with the Lancia-Ferrari, which was powered by a Ferrari V8 engine, marking it the first championship-winning car with a V8 configuration.
