Hampton Fancher was born on July 18, 1938 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is an actor and writer, known for Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Blade Runner (1982) and The Minus Man (1999). He was previously married to Sue Lyon and Joann McNabb.

Co-writer of the screenplay for the 1982 neo-noir science fiction film Blade Runner and its 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049, based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

In 2019, Fancher published The Wall Will Tell You, a screenwriting manual which drew from his personal experiences.

At 15, he ran away to Spain to become a flamenco dancer and renamed himself "Mario Montejo".

I am interested in what it is to be human as in humane, and how so much of our history is the opposite. The solution to that, to some degree, is empathy. We're lost because of our inability to live within our empathetic impulses, but the contradictions are intriguing. That's in Blade Runner. Plus the idea of perfecting ourselves, but then Roy Batty puts his maker's eyes out.
