Fairuz in Biya el-Khawatim (1965)

Biography

Fairuz

Overview

  • Born
November 21, 1935 · Chouf, Mount Lebanon, Lebanon
  • Birth name
    Nouhad Rizq Wadie Haddad

Biography

  • One of the most iconic Arabian singers ever to live, Nouhad Haddad that is widely known as "Fairuz" was born in November 20,1935 in Zokak Al-Bilat in Western Beirut, Lebanon. With her angelic voice she captivated the hearts of many in the Arabic world as well as in the whole world only to become one of the most influential Arabian singers ever to come and her voice as one of the best ever to exist. It has become a habit for many in countries like Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Tunisia among others to listen to her songs first thing early in the morning and most Arabian radio stations broadcast her songs at this time. Many foreigners too do listen to her songs without being able to speak or understand Arabic. Therefore, she received a lot of honors and awards from countries like France (Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur), United States (the key to the city of Las Vegas), as well as Arabian countries from Lebanon to Syria, Jordan, Tunisia, Palestine, Egypt, and above that the United Nations. One could not summarize her extraordinary musical career in few lines that is why it is better to leave it there and jump to the acting career. Fairuz participated in many television programs such as "The Bracelet", "Jerusalem in my Heart", "Romantic Evening".. etc. She has also participated in a lot of theatrical works that she is known for such as "Safar Barlek", "Biya El-Khawatem", "Bint El-Hares", "Mais El-Reem".. etc. To sum it all up it is only fair to state couple of quotes about her. The Guardian: She sang the story of a Lebanon that never really existed" and "essentially helped build the identity of Lebanon". BBC in 2008: "the legendary Lebanese singer and greatest living Arab diva"
