Biography

Was placed in an orphanage, (in Twickenham, England) , by his unmarried mother when he was four, as her husband-to -be would not adopt another man's child. He never saw his mother again and never knew his biological father, (who was probably a Canadian airman stationed in England during WW2.).

At age 18, Evans won a John Gielgud scholarship to train for the stage at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

During his last years in Melton Mowbray, he was a taxi driver.

The circumstances of his death in 1997, at just 53 years old, remain a mystery. He had reported his taxi stolen and when the local Police visited his Leicestershire bungalow in the village of Claybrook Magna, the next day to tell him it had been found, they discovered his body. The telephone cable had been cut and a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of aspirin were nearby, the aspirin had a pre-1971 date on it. A post-mortem showed a high level of alcohol in his bloodstream but no trace of any aspirin and also an unexplained head injury. A local youth was arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder but was released without charge due to lack of evidence. An inquest recorded an inconclusive, "open verdict" as no suicide note was left and it could not be determined with enough certainty, if he took his own life or if any possible foul play was involved.
