Best remembered for his roles in The Joyless Street (1925), Quax, der Bruchpilot (1941)) and The Punch Bowl (1944). He also had a distinguished career on stage in Berlin. His wife, who was half-Jewish, was murdered by the Nazis at the Ravensbrück concentration camp in March 1942.
