Francis Essex was born on 29 March 1929 in Brentwood, Essex, England, UK. He was a producer and writer, known for BBC Sunday-Night Theatre (1950), Gabrielle and the Doodleman (1984) and Dave's Kingdom (1964). He died on 5 March 2009.

He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award: American Express
Award in 1996 (1995 season) for Best Musical for Jolson played at the
Victoria Palace Theatre.

Brother of TV producer <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0261406/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Tony Essex</a>.
