  • Met second wife Lyda Roberti while he was convalescing in a hospital after a car wreck and she was recovering from an appendectomy. Their first dates were spent wandering the hospital hallways in their wheelchairs.
  • Was despondent over his failed television career and that he had become dependent on his wife's income. He shot himself after calling a newspaper editor and telling him. "I'm at the end of my rope. Get a reporter here in 10 minutes. Send up and you'll get a story". He was 39 years old.
  • Was considered an expert flier, served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II.
  • Flew Errol Flynn and Flynn's fiancée, Lili Damita, to Yuma, Arizona for their wedding, where he acted as best man. Originally was supposed to be a double wedding but Lyda Roberti could not get time off from the film she was shooting.
