Biography

Leonard Engelman was born on May 9, 1941 in Burbank, Los Angeles, California, USA. He is known for The Princess Diaries (2001), Ghostbusters (1984) and Beverly Hills Cop (1984). He died on August 1, 2024 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Worked as Cher's personal makeup artist on photo shoots and her films Moonstruck (1987), Suspect (1987), The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Mermaids (1990), Faithful (1996), Tea With Mussolini (1999) and Burlesque (2010).

The first Governor of the newly created Makeup Branch on the Board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences [2006-].

He was the son of a makeup artist with the same first, middle and last name who worked on lots of 1940s Westerns before he died when his boy was just 11.

Graduated from Burbank High School and soon after landed a job at Universal.

Member of the Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles and of Local 706 of the makeup and hairstylists guild for more than five decades.
