Biography

Ted Emery was a director and producer, known for Full Frontal (1993), Fast Forward (1989) and Countdown (1974). He died on March 3, 2026 in Shire of Noosa, Australlia.

Joined ABC as a stage hand in the 1970s, after serving in Vietnam.

Worked his way from an ABC stagehand in Ripponlea studios, Elsternwick, to floor managing and to the Director's chair.

Served in the Royal Australian Navy during the Vietnam War.

Ted Emery was an Australian film and television director and producer.

Emery is credited with having helped to save many of the master videotapes of Countdown, including the first episode that was broadcast in colour. A large number of master videotapes recorded at the ABC between 1974 and 1978 were later erased and recycled during a management-initiated "economy drive" at the ABC, an action which Meldrum later criticised and said was "unforgivable".
