- Eric Emerson was born on June 23, 1944 in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. He was an actor, known for **** (1967), Heat (1972) and The Mind Blowers (1969). He died on May 28, 1975.
- The Sonic Youth song "Eric's Trip" (from Daydream Nation, DGC/Geffen) is inspired by Emerson's LSD monologue in Chelsea Girls.
- His body was found near the West Side Highway. Although it was possibly a hit and run, many friends assumed he had overdosed on drugs and his body was moved there.
- He had trained as a ballet dancer. Warhol discovered him dancing at the Dom - "...a small, muscular blonde kid made a ballet leap that practically spanned the dance floor".
- Inadvertently hampered sales of The Velvet Underground's first album. The original back-cover photo included an upside-down image of Emerson, flashed over the band onstage. To pay a hospital bill, Emerson sued Verve Records (the Velvets' record label) for unauthorized use of his likeness. Verve stopped distribution of the album until the photo could be airbrushed and the cover reprinted. The delay kept the album from rising any higher than #129 in the Billboard music charts, costing them a potential Hot 100 hit.
