- Shawn Elliott (born Eliezer Santiago) grew up in New York performing as both an actor and singer. He had two sons, Roland and Russell Santiago from his first marriage to Gloria Fernandez. He also had an adopted daughter and possibly two more children. His last wife was fellow actor Donna Murphy, to whom he married in 1990.

- Going as "Santiago", he was a singer and released a disco/soul album in 1976 under the title "Mr. Love" for Amherst Records. A pair of 12" singles were also released.

- In 1964 Shawn Elliott had a huge international hit on Roulette Records with the song "Shame and Scandal in the Family" (aka "Shame & Scandal"). Originally titled "Fort Holland Calypso Song" it was written by calypso singer Sir Lancelot for Jacques Tourner's horror classic "I Walked with a Zombie" (1943). Keeping the melody and the chorus, Trinidadian calypsonian Lord Melody released it in 1962 as "Wau Wau (Shame & Scandal in the Family)". He wrote new verses, based on the story told by English-born Canadian poet and writer Robert William Service in his poem "Madame La Marquise" (circa 1940). Elliott recorded this version, backed by "My Girl" (not Smokey Robinson's hit for The Tempatations). In 1965 Elliott included both tracks in the album "Shame and Scandal Plus Plenty More Songs and Swingers" (Roulette PRL-221.).
