Biography

After graduating from the University of Colorado, she worked at the Cleveland Play House, the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., making her Broadway debut as Countess Charlotte Malcolm in the original production of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music", and won (against stiff competition) the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in 1973 for her performance. She spent 23 years on One Life to Live (1968). Between 1974-82, she also appeared in 69 episodes of "The CBS Radio Mystery Theater". She was nominated for a Tony Award again in 1977 for her role in the original production of "The Shadow Box". Other Broadway credits include "A Doll's House", "A Month of Sundays", and "Hedda Gabler". For "The Elephant Man" (1980), she replaced Carole Shelley as Mrs. Kendal and appeared opposite Philip Anglim and David Bowie (two of the actors who played "John Merrick, the Elephant Man").
