Steven Elder was born Steven Lawrence in Rotherham, England. His parents are Clifford Lawrence (a former coal-miner, and professional boxer), and Margaret Barlow. He attended the Valley Comprehensive School in Worksop, England; the University Of London; and the Webber Douglas Academy Of Dramatic Art (London)
