  • As a Jew he was no longer able to work in Germany in the arising National Socialism and he was excluded from the Reichstheaterkammer. Therefore he emigrated via Prague and Vienna to Switzerland where he worked again as a acting teacher. Beside it he wrote lines and appeared on stage from 1944 again.
  • Hugo Döblin began his acting career at the Stadttheater Celle in 1896 and only one year later he went to Berlin where he soon became established on stage and he appeared at important theaters like the "Reinhardt-Bühnen" and at "Das Deutsche Theater".
  • The 20s marked the height of his career. Besides numerous other support roles in silent movies he was also very successful as a cabaret artist. Among others he appeared at "Café Grössenwahn" and "Die Wespen".
  • When the sound film arose in the 30s he had a positive attitude to it and he even founded the first sound film school in Berlin.
