  • Daughter of a well-to-do cotton broker. Educated at Roedean School and finishing school in Paris. Trained at RADA, graduating in 1938. First acted in repertory theatre in Frinton On Sea, Birmingham, Oxford and Windsor. Subsequently at the London West End and wartime duties with ENSA. Screen debut with the BBC in 1948 led to a prolific television career, in which one of her best known parts was that of Ida Barlow in the long-running soapie 'Coronation Street' (1960-61). Film appearances occasional.
  • A memorial service was held for her at St. Paul's Church, Covent Garden on 2nd October 1995.
