Was part of an acrobatic team in the early years but eventually quit after his partner threw him too hard and broke his wrist.

Left school for show business at the age of 9. He played alongside tumbler Bud Aarons on the road.

After his split with Mitchell in the late 1930s, he returned to Braodway in "Yokel Boy" but was replaced by Phil Silvers. He played the London Palladium for sixteen weeks and broke the house attendance record.

Worked for Fox musicals that showcased Alice Faye.

Best remembered to Film Noir, specifically fans of Orson Welles, as dapper yet aloof gambler Go Go Martel (business partner of Dolores del Rio) from Journey Into Fear.

Met Frank Mitchell when they both had joined the YMCA and worked out together. With both having acrobatic skills, they eventually decided to partner. Their first big Broadway show was in "Hit the Deck". They stayed with the show for a year and a half. Later they appeared in editions of both the "George White's Scandals" and "Earl Carroll Vanities".

In the comedy team Mitchell and Durant, Jack was the tall straight man, and, like Moe in The Three Stooges, would bully and beat-up the shorter underdog portrayed by Frank Mitchell.
