He graduated from Three Rivers High School in Three Rivers, Michigan in 1932.

He was originally Anthony M. Dukette, known as Tony by his friends. He changed the spelling of his last name to Duquette after he got to Hollywood.

His wife, Elizabeth, was a painter he met at Choinard Art School. They were married at Pickfair with Mary Pickford as Matron of Honor and Buddy Rogers as Best Man.
