Davidson Dunton was born on July 4, 1912 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. He died on February 7, 1987 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

President of Carleton University, Co-Chairman of the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism with André Laurendeau and former President of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Awarded the C.C. (Companion of the Order of Canada) on December 18, 1970 for his services to education in Canada.
