Michael Thomas Dunn

Trivia

Michael Thomas Dunn

  • Originally majored in Engineering at the University of Central Florida. He paid for his college classes by working as a computer technician.
  • He has an IQ of 175. He scored so well on aptitude tests in 7th grade, he was advanced directly to high school (skipping 8th grade). As a seventh grader, he also took the SAT/ACT and performed so well that he never retook either college entrance exam (used the existing scores to enter college several years later).
  • He directed his first feature film ("Alone and Restless") at age 22. When he turned 25, he begin construction on his 10 acre "MTD" Studio Complex located in Florida.
  • The "MTD" Studio Complex is actually a converted ranch. It features a sound stage, backlot (with different facades/terrains/outdoor sets), production offices and a private lake. Many of the crew who have worked there have nicknamed it, "The Indie Film Ranch."
  • As a child, he grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida and graduated from J.P. Taravella High School. As a young adult, he relocated to the Orlando area.
  • While in high school, he was a prominent local journalist and wrote for multiple newspapers and independent magazines. Some of the publications included "The Chariot" and "Tiger" Magazine.
  • He is of Irish, Polish & German heritage, the only child of two math teachers from New Jersey.
  • Owns a collection of performance cars and classic automobiles.
  • Had corrective eye surgery when he was in the second grade. If left uncorrected, would have gone blind by the age of 10.
  • Veteran TV Producer Danny Bilson (The Sentinel, Viper) had pushed/coached Dunn to pursue a career in the Film Industry (starting in 1998). To pay homage to Bilson, Dunn named the recurring hero in the independent films Midnight Conflict and Silent Night, "Paul Bilson." This character's name was derived from the producing team of Paul DeMeo and Danny Bilson (who created the Flash, Viper and The Sentinel).
  • He is known as a very experienced driver. Not only does he have stunt precision driving experience - he has also competed in racing venues such as SCCA auto cross and professional drag racing. In addition, he also has extensive experience driving Class A tractor trailers and motorcycles. If it has a engine, he can drive it.
  • Graduated from the Film Program at the University of Central Florida. The groundbreaking short film, "Midnight Conflict," was originally shot by Michael as a student film. It was the first film shot at the Film School in Digital Video (at the time, the film school used only 16mm).
  • In November 2007, he was the victim of a violent armed robbery. He sustained over 40 fractures to his face and lost the top of his left ear from a gunshot. He was able to find his way to a phone and call for help, even though he was temporarily blinded by the attack (he sustained more than 8 blunt force hits to his head from a hand gun). The paramedics and emergency room staff did not expect him to survive the injuries. At the time, he was midway through filming the feature film, "Bloody 27." The film was stalled by one month - it was quickly rewritten to explain that his character's injuries were caused by a jealous husband. Michael returned to acting in December 2007 when "Bloody 27" resumed filming.
  • Favorite movies: Transformers (2007), Vanishing Point (1971), The Fast and the Furious (2001) and RoboCop (1987).
  • While on hiatus from filming, Michael attends the University of Central Florida. He earned a Master's Degree in 2008.
