Biography

Bobby Dunn was born on August 28, 1890 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He was an actor, known for His Busted Trust (1916), The Thrill Hunter (1926) and Our Alley (1923). He died on March 24, 1937 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Comic actor who started his career at Keystone. Lost one of his eyes in a stunt that went wrong (while falling into a barrel of water, his eye was caught by a floating matchstick on top) and took to wearing a glass eye, which gave him a somewhat cross-eyed appearance. He later supported such comedians as Harold Lloyd, W.C. Fields, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy before his early death.

Worked steadily for comedy producer Hal Roach from the 1920s until his death, often in uncredited bits. Dunn is perhaps best remembered for his running gag appearance as an increasingly bold shoplifter in the Laurel & Hardy short Tit for Tat (1935).

Dunn was one of the original Keystone Cops, appearing in their first film, Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912). This was also his screen debut.

Buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, CA, Section 13, Grave 1431. Dunn's resting place was unmarked for many years before Laurel & Hardy fans raised funds for a headstone. Beneath his name and dates is the inscription, "Beloved Member of the Hal Roach Stock Company".
