He was the partner of actress Patrizia Castaldi from 1973 to 1977.

After 6 years of classical studies and playing at nightclubs around Capri, Peppino and his group The Rockers released their first singles, "Malattia" ("Sickness") and "Nun è Peccato" ("It's not a sin"), sung in Neapolitan in 1958.

Curiously enough, Peppino di Capri has also sung in Japanese. When he toured Japan with the Sanremo World Tour in 1989, he released, among other things, a special Japanese version of his song "Il mio pianoforte" (My Piano) to please his Japanese fans.

On 4 January 1987 he recorded his first live album, Peppino di Capri in concerto, in London , made during a concert at the Royal Albert Hall and released in 1988.

After performing as the opening act for The Beatles in their 1965 tour of Italy, di Capri and his group attempted, with moderate success, to break out of the European market. Their work was well received, particularly in Brazil, thanks to the large Italian immigrant community in the country.

Together with his son Edoardo Faiella, he composed in 2006 the soundtrack for the television series Capri , broadcast by Rai Uno.

He represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991, coming in 7th place with 89 points with the song "Comme è ddoce 'o mare" ("How sweet is the sea"), sung in Neapolitan.

His 1960s hits include his cover versions of Chubby Checker's "Let's Twist Again" and Ben E. King's "Don't Play That Song", modern versions of Canzone Napoletana classics such as "Voce 'e notte", "Luna caprese" and "I' te vurria vasà", and original compositions, notably "Nessuno al mondo" and "Roberta", which was named after his then wife Roberta Stoppa.

In March 2025 he received the keys to the city from the Municipality of Capri , a recognition awarded for his connection with the island and for his long artistic career.

Throughout his career, Peppino di Capri has sung in Italian, Neapolitan, English, French, Spanish, and German.

In the 1960s and 1970s, he released several German-language songs specifically for the German-speaking market. Well-known examples of his German-language repertoire include the songs "Melancholie" (the German version of his hit) and "Bambina, die Sonne scheint." He also enjoyed considerable success in France and other international markets, resulting in French-language performances and singles (such as "Ti amo Je t'aime").

During the fourth evening of the Sanremo Festival 2023, he received the "City of Sanremo" award for his career on the stage of the Ariston Theatre. On this occasion he performed Champagne on the piano , one of the most representative songs of his repertoire.

He released in 2006 the album "Fase 3" , made with the collaboration of Franco Del Prete, author of the lyrics and rhythmic director of the project. The album marked a new phase in his production, characterized by sounds closer to the contamination between Neapolitan music, jazz and rock, and also saw the participation of James Senese in a track of the album.

Peppino di Capri is the performer with the most appearances (15) at the Sanremo Festival, his last appearance being in 2005, singing "La Panchina" ("The little park bench").

In 1966 he recorded "Operazione sole", considered one of the first Italian examples of contamination with the ska genre, and participated in the Naples Festival with the songs 'Ce vo' tiempo' and 'Lucia'. The interpretation of 'Ce vo' tiempo' was used in the film "Operazione San Gennaro" (1966) by Dino Risi.

In 2024 he was a guest at Renato Zero 's concert in Naples, as part of the Autoritratto - I concerti evento tour , performing the song Luna caprese with him.

Peppino di Capri ("Joe from Capri"), was an Italian popular music singer, songwriter, and pianist, successful in Italy and Europe. His international hits include "St. Tropez Twist", "Daniela", "Torna piccina", "Roberta", "Melancolie", "Freva", "L'ultimo romantico", "Un grande amore e niente più", "Non lo faccio più", "Nun è peccato", and "Champagne".

He began singing and playing the piano at age 4, entertaining the American army troops stationed on the island of Capri with a repertoire of American standards.
