André Devigny was born on 25 May 1916 in Habère-Lullin, Haute-Savoie, France. He was a writer, known for A Man Escaped (1956). He died on 12 February 1999.
Soldier and member of the French resistance during World War II. Imprisoned and sentenced to death after the killing of a Gestapo member, he managed to escape from prison, recounting his memoirs in a book that was used as basis for Robert Bresson's classic film A Man Escaped (1956). Devigny got to the rank of general, retiring in 1971.
