A Formula 1 driver who participated in the world championship in 1972 and 1974-1980. Depailler won two races in Formula 1, the Monaco Grand Prix in 1978 and the Spanish Grand Prix in 1979.

Died at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany when testing his Alfa Romeo. Depailler's car left the road very suddenly, a puncture or a mechanical failure was suspected.

Was born in Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, France. In 1972 Depailler drove his first Formula 1 race at the Clermont-Ferrand circuit.

1974 Swedish Grand Prix, Patrick Depailler became the first French driver to start pole position.

Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: Tyrrell (1972 (2 GPs), 1974 (15 GPs)-1975 (14 GPs)-1976 (16 GPs)-1977 (17 GPs)-1978 (16 GPs)), Ligier (1979 (7 GPs)) and Alfa Romeo (1980 (8 GPs)). He started 95 Grands Prix, 2 Wins, 1 Pole Position, 4 Fastest Laps and 19 Podiums. Best ranked in the World Championship: 4th in 1976.
