Biography

Besides acting in movies, from the early 1970s till 1983, Max Delys worked on Fotoromanzi at Lancio (Italian publication). The photo-novel was a popular reading material not only in Italy, but in most Spanish speaking countries, as well as Portugal and Brazil. Max Delys, along with many other actors of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, became internationally famous due to this cultural phenomena. In 1971, Delys appeared in the Coca Cola TV commercial "It's the Real Thing" seen in the last episode of Mad Men.

Delys, son of a renowned doctor, was active in his youth as a swimmer and national runner-up in the 100-metre freestyle in 1976. At the age of seventeen, he left his family with his girlfriend Dominique Darel and moved to Rome, where he soon began working as a model and actor.

His first uncredited film experience was in The Nun of Monza, directed by Eriprando Visconti. Between 1969 and 1977, he played young daredevils in some Italian genre films; after his first films, he studied in New York at the Actors Studio before returning to Rome.

By 1978, as a result of financial difficulties and probably drug problems, he had already left Rome and returned to Cannes, where he fell ill soon after.

According to actor Roberto Farnesi, he died at just over 40 years of age from AIDS.
