Biography

Georgiy Deliyev is a Ukrainian actor, film director and screenwriter whose professional career began in the early 1980s. In 1984, he became the artistic director and leading actor of the Odessa theatre company Maski. In between 1991 and 2006 he gained wide recognition as the creator, director and leading performer of Maski Show, a television comedy series combining physical theatre, mime, clowning and the traditions of silent cinema. As a film actor, Deliyev has worked with internationally recognized directors including Kira Muratova, Sergei Loznitsa, Nana Jorjadze and Ulrike Ottinger. His notable roles include Andrey in Muratova's The Tuner (2004), Ostap Bender in Ottinger's Twelve Chairs (2004), as well as appearances in Melody for a Street Organ (2009), Eternal Homecoming (2012) and Loznitsa's Donbass (2018). Deliyev is also a film director and screenwriter. He has directed the feature films Odessa Foundling, Blue Eyes Like the Sea and Rare Rain, 7 days with Russian beauty, alongside more than 20 theatre and circus productions. He holds the honorary title of People's Artist of Ukraine and received the Best Actor Award at the Stozhary International Film Festival for his performance in The Tuner. He is based in France.
