When Germany and France antagonized which culminated in the outbreak of World War I the career of the French Decroix ended in Germany. He left Germany and went to Switzerland where he remained till to the end of the war.

The director Charles Decroix belonged to the European film pioneers whose career began in France with movies like "Pédicure par amour" (1908), "La victim" (1909), "Une conquête" (1909) with the legendary Max Linder and "Les paysans" (1909).

Although he as detained in Frutigen by the majority he was able to shoot few movies in Zurich like "Sauveur dans la détresse" (1917), "La frontière est occupée" (1917) and "Frühlingsmanöver" (1917).

From 1910 he was able to launch a very successful film career in Germany and he realised many movies as a director both in Germany and France.

Charles Decroix launched among others the career of the later silent movie stars Bernd Aldor and Fern Andra.

When World War I ended Charles Decrois went back to France. He tried to continue his film career but because of his active career in Germany till 1914 people made it impossible to gain a foothold in the French film business again. Therefore he returned to Germany where he was able to realise two more movies as a co-director together with Heinrich Bolten-Baeckers.
