Trivia

  • Jaak De Voght was a Flemish entertainer and stage and film actor who performed successfully in the Antwerp entertainment scene until the 1970s.
  • He is also significant because many artists were able to take their first steps before an audience at his cabaret café, Den Uilenspiegel, on Koningin Astridplein in Antwerp. For instance, he played a role in launching the careers of De Strangers, Gaston Berghmans, and Staf Permentier, among others.
  • His greatest contribution was in revue theatre. For a time, he formed the duo 'Madam Priet en Madam Praat' with Louis Staal, who stood barely 1.27 meters tall. In the 1950s, he also performed in Joris Collet's radio comedy show 'Kop en staart'.
  • Many of Jaak de Voght's songs were released on record, such as his best-known track, "De Kaspische Zee," which topped the Flemish charts for two weeks in the summer of 1956.
  • De Voght performed on stage from a very young age and worked as a professional actor in various theaters, including the Ancienne Belgique in Antwerp and the Folies Bergère in Brussels.
