Biography

Gys is a South African actor who was awarded his Alien of Extraordinary ability visa (Green Card Holder) in 2015 for performance in film, television and theatre and he is now residing in New York.

His career spans 39 years and he has built an impressive theatre, film and television career in South Africa and abroad. It includes over 58 professional theatre productions, 30 feature films, 20 television series, 12 long-running soap operas.

In his time living in the USA, he has done 156 shoots for short films, TV series, Web Series, Feature films, corporate videos, Theatre etc.

He recently won: 2 x Best Actor Awards in a short at The International Filmmaker Festival Of World Cinema - Nice as well as at The Southern States Indie FanFilmFest, for his performance in "It Gets Better". He did a 6-month contract in "Sleep No More" where he danced the track of Duncan. In December 2019 he performed at The Billie Holiday Theater in the highly acclaimed " Reparations" directed by Michele Shay.

His most recent international work was in 'Mandela Long Walk to Freedom' with Idris Elba where he played president FW De Klerk. He also starred in 'Vehicle 19' with the late Paul Walker.
