- Herbert De Souza was born on November 3, 1935 in Bocaiúva, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He was a writer, known for A Terra Queima (1984), Josué de Castro, Cidadão do Mundo (1994) and A Dívida da Vida (1992). He died on August 19, 1997.

- Sociologist and human rights activist. Best remembered for his social activism on fight against hunger and poverty. He was also an AIDS activist, a disease he was a victim, along with his brothers Henfil and Chico Mário, who all contracted from blood transfusions in the early 1980's. All three were hemophiliac.
