Biography

Moraes was born during a tour of the theater company in which her parents were performing, and her name was a tribute to her maternal grandmother 'Dulcina de Los Rios Vallina', also an actress. At only a month old, she was already on stage, replacing a doll in a crib used in a play.

In the 1923, at the age of 15, she begins her career at Viriato Correa's 'Companhia Brasileira de Comédia' (CBC) theater company. Two years later, she would join Leopoldo Froes's theatrical group, one the most important companies of the beginning of the last century, starring in Martins Fontes's play 'Partida para Cythera' (1925).

In 1934, together with her husband, actor, and entrepreneur Odilon Azevedo, she would create the 'Dulcina-Odilon Theatrical Company', bringing to Brazilian stages the works of Federico García Lorca, Gabriele D'Annunzio, and George Bernard Shaw, to name a few. Two of her most successful plays were Oduvaldo Vianna's "Amor" (1933) and John Colton's 'Rain' (1922), which she directed and played "Sadie Thompson" in 1945, and that would be reenacted over the next 15 years.

In 1955, Dulcina launched the project 'Fundação Brasileira de Teatro' (FBT) to train actors, first established in a Rio de Janeiro theater that today bears her name. Between 1973 and 1980, Moraes did not act in any plays and dedicated herself to transferring the 'FBT' to Brasilia, where she inaugurated the 'Dulcina Theater' On April 21, 1980.

in 1981, she would return one last time to the stage on Sérgio Viotti's "O Melhor dos Pecados", especially written for her and directed by Bibi Ferreira. From 1982 onward, she dedicated herself exclusively to teaching the art of theater acting.

She died at the age of 88, leaving a legacy of over 120 highly praised dramatic and comedic stage performances, two films and several TV tele theater appearances.
