Piero De Bernardi was born on April 12, 1926 in Prato, Tuscany, Italy. He was a writer and director, known for Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Let's Hope It's a Girl (1986) and My Friends (1975). He died on January 8, 2010 in Milan, Lombardy, Italy.

He claims that his involvement with the script for Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America (1984) ("C'era una volta in America") took a period of about 12 years to confirm.
