The boundaries between reality and fiction, the passion for the cinema, and mainly a film trajectory that started out in the Boca do Lixo in São Paulo so he could follow his own path as a very personal director, are some of the main characteristics of Guilherme de Almeida Prado. It was via all these particularities that he's gotten the most successful films of his career: The Lady from the Shanghai Cinema; Scent of Gardenia; The Magic Hour and Whatever Happened to Dulce Veiga?.

Born in Ribeirão Preto, Guilherme graduated in Engineering from Mackenzie University in São Paulo. He always knew he wanted the cinema. Started out as a Production Assistant for the Brazilian Pornochanchada in the 1970s, and soon after he was shooting his first feature, the low-budget production of As Taras de Todos Nós, which was a huge popular success. Thanks to this film, he could evolve to a more personal kind of cinema, with The Flower of Desire, which already brought out the elements that would make him known and that would explode in his next movie, The Lady from the Shanghai Cinema, winner of many national and international prizes. The Magic Hour helped to establish either the career of producer Sara Silveira and his longtime friend Carlos Reichenbach. He debuted as an actor in O Corpo and later on in It's Almost True, from his friend and fellow director Emanuel Mendes, in 2014.

Is good friends with (Brazilian film director) Emanuel Mendes. The two frequently meet, watch films together and read each other's screenplays. In 2014, Guilherme starred in Mendes's short film "É Quase Verdade" (It's Almost True), in the role of a typical Third World film director, and who gives a killing testimony of what it is to be a filmmaker in Brazil.

During the beginning of the 1990s, his film "Scent of Gardenia" was the only film production being shot in Brazil - due to the extinction of Embrafilme (a defunct governmental organ responsible for approving and financing the cinema in Brazil) by the Fernando Collor de Mello presidency.

Graduated in Engineering from Mackenzie University, in São Paulo, Brazil.

Started out in the Boca do Lixo - a decadent area of São Paulo in the 1970s where most low-budget films (usually called pornochanchadas, a mix of comedy and the erotic) were shot. He was a Production Assistant on 8 films made there and was so well-organized on the set that a lot of directors started calling him for their productions. He later on got money to direct his first film and was able to evolve to a more personal cinema. He became one of the most talented and sophisticated film directors in Brazil - with a keen eye to detail and elegant productions mostly influenced by his love for the cinema.

Was one of the directors attached to the project of "Ed Wood" (1994), "but soon after Tim Burton got involved and the producers chose him instead", according to his own words, and one of the many fun stories of his autobiography, published in Brazil by Imprensa Oficial.
