She was a Sri Lankan actress, dancer, model, and beauty pageant titleholder who starred in Veit Harlan's movie "Sterne über Colombo", a.k.a. "Circus Girl", a German picture filmed in Ceylon.

Hingert attended school at the Holy Family Convent in Bambalapitiya, Colombo until she was eighteen and continued her college education in Los Angeles, California in the United States.

Her daughter Gina achieved fame in arts and entertainment and was active in the field of historic preservation.

In 1958, she appeared in the film Gun Fever, and a photograph from the movie shoot was later published in Playboy magazine in September 1957-making her the first and only Sri Lankan woman to be featured in the magazine.

Maureen made history by winning the Miss Ceylon title in 1955 and went on to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant, where she was crowned second runner-up-a milestone achievement at the time.

Hingert married an American designer and artist Mario Armond Zamparelli in 1958. Zamparelli was best known for his work as designer of Howard Hughes' empire.

She was the first Ceylonese representative to win an award at the Miss Universe pageant, after finishing as the second runner-up.[4] Due to her high placement in the contest, she has been revered as "putting Ceylon on the map" and being an ambassador to her country, Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka).

Maureen Hingert studied languages, world history, and nursing. She spoke English, French, Spanish, Hindustani, and Tamil.

She was sometimes billed in films as Jana Davi.

Following her success, she entered the film industry and starred in several Hollywood productions.

She was also a dancer, and gave solo performances at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and other major Los Angeles venues.

After the tragic passing of her daughter Gina Zamparelli due to cancer, Maureen chose to live a private life away from the public eye in Los Angeles, where she remained until her death.

She signed with major studios like 20th Century Fox and Universal International Studios, and her filmography includes titles such as The King and I, Fort Bowie, The Rawhide Trail, Gunman from Laredo, Pillars of the Sky, and The Adventures of Hiram Holiday, among others.
