Born to Dr. Adolphe Bloch, a physician, and Noemi Allatini Bloch, Marcel adopted the surname of Dassault, the code name of a brother in the French Resistance, soon after World War II.

French industrialist, engineer, aviation-magazine editor, journalist, politician, motion-picture angel, publisher of popular glossy magazine Jours de France, tract-housing developer, and fan of science fiction. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre.
