Biography

Marcello Danon was born on October 3, 1920 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was a producer and writer, known for The Birdcage (1996), La Cage aux Folles (1978) and Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971). He died on January 21, 1997 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

Bulgarian Danon was educated in Paris and first worked in filmmaking as a scriptwriter and production manager.

In America, I think, the work of the producer today is mainly the financial part. But generally in Europe the producer is a filmmaker too. I must be a good organizer. I must work FOR my films.

I was 20 years old when I started. I can't remember why I felt the necessity to make films. All my family, all the people, made art. They were artists, composers, musicians.
