Biography

Jean Daniélou was born on May 14, 1905 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France. He was a writer, known for Oedipus Rex (1969), Oedipus Rex (1984) and Portrait souvenir (1960). He died on May 20, 1974 in Paris, France.

Titular archbishop of Taormina, he was created cardinal by Pope Paul VI on 28 April 1969.

Theologian and historian, he wrote numerous books about religion.

Buried in the Vaugirard cemetery, Paris, France.

Elected member of the Académie française on 9 November 1972.

Brother of Alain Daniélou.
