- As a youngster, Paul lived at 51 North Street, South Bank near Middlesborough. He had a baby brother who died of Blue Baby Syndrome. Another brother, Trevor is a musician and organist. Their father was Handel Newton Daniel. When he went to register Paul's birth, the registrar added an 's', so changing the family's name to Daniels. His grandparents had high hopes for his father christening him Handel, for music and Newton for science. While he served time as an electrician, he could make anything out of wood, metal and plastics and do anything with electronics.

- On New Year's Day 2012 he accidentally cut off his left index finger and the tip of his ring finger as he was using a circular saw to build a prop for his stage show. Since he was the only person in the house (his wife was at a radio interview) he drove himself to hospital where the index finger was successfully reattached.
