Father of actor Wim Danckaert.

One of Hugo's earliest achievements was that he co-founded the well-known Antwerp Fakkeltheater. "In the 1950s and 1960s, the Fakkeltheater was founded by a group of friends who came from education," his son Wim explains. "And that gradually grew. More professional actors joined. First it was a semi-professional and later a professional theater. As a result, tensions arose. The professional actors didn't think they should work with amateur actors," he knows. "That eventually, in the 1980s, led to the Torch Theatre falling apart.

Not only in the theater, but also on the small screen, Danckaert was regularly seen. For television, he was especially in demand as a guest actor.

In the TV world, Hugo Danckaert mainly did smaller supporting roles, but his son Wim learned to appreciate his father especially as a director. "He was someone who could deal very inventively with pieces you wouldn't immediately expect. My father also did a lot of directing for amateur companies. He was worshipped everywhere. Everyone really liked him because he worked with people in a very human, warm way. He could really make actors rise above themselves.".

Hugo Danckaert was a Flemish actor. In the early 1960s he co-founded the Fakkeltheater and was active there as a director and actor.
