Búi Dam is a director, musician, and actor who grew up in the Faroe Islands in a family of artists. He studied directing at the Danish National School of Dramatic Art, acting t the London School of Dramatic Art, and jazz music at the Musicians' Union Music School in Iceland (FIH). He also studied music in Cuba and was mentored by American jazz saxophonist John Purcell and Indian poet and playwright H. S. Shivaprakash.
Búi Dam is the Artistic Director of performance group Det Ferösche Compagnie. His work has earned him numerous awards, including the M. A. Jacobsen Award (2009, 2022), the Geytin Film Award (2020), and the Best Actor Award at the Winter Film Awards in New York.
After releasing several albums, directing plays, and acting in films, he ventured into filmmaking, writing, directing, and performing in the TV series Six Questions on Being Human (2022)
In 2026 his debut feature film, BIRITA, will be released. The documentary follows his mother, Birita - an elderly actress living with severe Alzheimer's disease - as she prepares to perform the leading role in Shakespeare's King Lear.
