He was arrested by the Vichy Government and imprisoned from 1940-1945. Became a member of the French National Assembly. Signed the Munich Pact with Neville Chamberlain, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler, yielding to Hitler's demand for German occupation of the Sudetenland.
