Daughter of Afonso Jaime Velho da Costa (b.1889) and Julieta Vaz da
Assunção (b.1913).

Has two older half-siblings: Joaquim Baltazar (b.1923) and Maria Teresa
(1929).

Her husband, Adérito (1928-1992), was a sociologist.

Has a son with Adérito named João Afonso (b.1964).

She&#39;s a writer. Won Camões Award in 2002.
