Biography

D'Amico was born in Germany to an American father and a British mother. Raised in the U.K. He first performed on London stage in a 1977 revival of Oliver!, moved briefly to Los Angeles in the early 80s, later returning to the British stage. Mostly known for playing Americans on British TV.

Attended Redroofs Theatre School and Windsor and Maidenhead College (1982).

As Michael Tolliver in the first season of Tales of the City, D'Amico was perfectly cast. All the cast members signed contracts that obligated them to return for a second season, if the show was picked up, at the same salary they earned in the first season. D'Amico declined to return solely because he didn't want that role, and that performance, to define his career. Everyone, including author Armistead Maupin, was disappointed.
