After leaving the Dead Kennedys, Cruz rejoined his former band, Gary 'Dr. Know' Miller. Dr. Know broke up on August 16th, 2010. Cruz has a new band called "MDCN MN".

In the early 80s, he was the singer for a well-known southern California punk band called Dr. Know. He is also covered in many tattoos from this period in his life.
