Biography

William Crowell was born on July 20, 1877 in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. He was an actor, known for Beyond the Great Wall (1920), The House Behind the Cedars (1927) and Birthright (1924). He died on July 30, 1929 in Roanoke, Virginia, USA.

Served as Corporal, Company K, 3rd North Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Colored) during the Spanish-American War; worked as a waiter in a hotel, farm laborer, and as an insurance agent for the North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company; in the '20s, was Vice President of Oscar Micheaux' Micheaux Film Corporation, described as "Producers and Distributors of High Class Negro Photoplays."
